This morning around 7:30am I sat in my quiet living room watching as the neighborhood awoke from it's Summer sleep. Teenagers jumped into cars, mother's scurried their children out the door and down the street. School is back in session.
Where was my child during all of this? Was I buzzing around making sure his teeth were brushed, his breakfast finished and backpack was ready? Nope. Bug was still in bed.
Letting my child get as much sleep as he needs is one of the things I'm very thankful for on this day when the rest of the city heads back to school.
After Bug woke up, we lazed around a bit and then I told him what was in store for today. We were going to celebrate the freedom of homeschooling by leaving the home!
First we headed to the local pool. We swam with Desiree and her boys for about an hour. It was fun! We weren't the only ones in the pool, but it definitely wasn't packed!
After the pool, we headed over the library and hooked up with Becca and her daughter. The kids read and played games in a blessedly quiet children's section while us moms got to know each other better. We've recently started up a homeschool group in town so we don't know each other well. While we were at the library, we nailed down some details about our homeschool group's usage of the multi-purpose room. We'll be meeting there every Friday and I think the children's librarian is almost as excited as we are!
We are so incredibly blessed to be able to homeschool in the manner we choose. We have the freedom to be out and about during the day, doing what we enjoy, without someone forcing me to put Bug in school. For this I am thankful.
I am with you: we are incredibly blessed to have the freedom to homeschool.
