In my life this week…
I've been busy!! My focus this week was on getting everything ready to start the new school year. I spent a lot of time planning, but had a lot of other commitments as well. I didn't get nearly enough time done on the planning side of things. With a little more time spent on Sunday I should be ready for Monday!
In our homeschool this week…
Bug started 4th grade! Even though I am not ready to start back, I put him back to work on a 'half day' schedule. What this really means is that he was doing the hour or so worth of work he does independently in the mornings. He wasn't necessarily doing it in the MORNING this week, as we didn't fall right into the schedule I want. I was spending time in planning and housekeeping to worry much about when. But it got him doing that much this week and gives us a good base to build the schedule off of next week.
Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
Bug started swim lessons this week! Woohoo!! He's in a morning class twice a week with 3 other homeschooling boys (whom we didn't know prior to lessons). He's loving the time in the water and I'm loving that he's got a good teacher that is really pushing him! In just two lessons he's learned 3 new strokes/kicks!
My favorite thing this week was…
When Bug decided to write part of his copywork in cursive. He's barely started learning it but I love that he chose to do something more difficult!
What’s working/not working for us…
The new rule that he doesn't get any screen time (tv, video games, phone or tablet games) before 3pm and ONLY if he's completed all his school work and chores for the day (except his evening chores). He's having a hard time in the mornings because he's used to using it to wake up, but overall I think it's giving him motivation to work hard! I hope that eventually he'll not be counting down the minutes until 3 o'clock!
I’m praying for…
Little baby Benaiah, born last week with a heart defect. God has been amazing in this little one's life so far and he might be going home today!
One of my really dear friends is pregnant again! She's suffered 4 miscarriages over the last 1.5 years, and I'm praying that she gets to meet this newest little one in this life.

"I’m often asked, “How do you do it?” and I always reply, “I don’t ‘do it.’ ” Isaiah 54:13 says, “All thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of thy children.” My job is to teach them of the Lord, and He will take care of the rest and provide the peace!" ~ Renita Bentz (Meet the Bentzs ~ The Old Schoolhouse Magazine, October 2012)
It's always interesting to see how others plan and do their homeschooling! I really think that no two families do it exactly the same! LOL All the best for Monday! We'll be starting Week 8! (And next week is our first scheduled vacation week!)
ReplyDeleteSwimming is so much fun! Sounds like he's moving right along with his skills!
We have the same rule here about Screen Time: Only after school and chores are completed (and not before 5:00pm).
Yay! for Swimming Lessons! ... and I've had a few that were excited for cursive, a few that were not. (it's much easier when they LIKE school:)
ReplyDeleteNo planning for me :D We use Switched on Schoolhouse and get our curriculum on cd that we put on our laptops. It has worked well for us. It keeps track of everything.
