Homeschool Mother's Journal ~ January 11, 2013

In my life this week…
I'm still working on recovering for the car accident we had in December.  My back and or my neck & shoulders hurts more often than not.  I pushing through though! I've been doing some water exercises twice a week during Bug's swim lessons.  That coupled with my 3x a week chiropractor appointments is keeping me busy and active!

In our homeschool this week…
It was the same ol' same ol'.  We finished week 13 of our school year.  In history, we studied the Kingdom of the Franks and Clovis the ex-barbarian. Science has not been happening.  Neither has Latin or Hebrew.  I need to re-think some things.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
We had science co-op this week which was a hit! We had 25 kids there and learned about mixtures - homogeneous and heterogeneous mixtures to be exact.  The kids learned the difference with hands on examples - snack mix & kool-aid!  I love it when we're able to combine learning, fun, and friends in one activity!  (Adding food into the mix doesn't hurt either!)

My favorite thing this week was…
The excitement when Bug finished reading The Hobbit.  We read it to him about a year ago and have been encouraging him to re-read it himself.  He tried about 9 months ago and couldn't do it.  After watching the movie in December, we encouraged him again telling him he couldn't see the movie again until he'd read the book.  He immediately picked up the book and finished it in a couple weeks.  It was tough, but he made it through it and we're all so proud of him.

Reading 'The Hobbit' in bed.

What’s working/not working for us…
Having to spend 2 hours, three times a week at the chiropractor's office.  It really puts a dent in our days!

I’m reading…
The Texan's Honor by Shelley Gray.  This is book #2 in the Heart of a Hero series.  I finished The Texan's Promise (Book #1) earlier in the week.

I’m cooking…
Lots of meat and veggies! I went grain-free in November.  After some research, I decided to do gluten-free for now.  I have a much harder time staying grain-free as I still want SOME carbs.  Gluten-free allows me to cut out a lot of my problem stuff but still gives me some of the carbs I want.  I'm trying to still eat a lot of meat and veggies though.  It's a delicate balance!  It would be easier if I knew I was sensitive to gluten or grains or something.  But I'm really just going on the research and experience of those with PCOS at this point.

Thursday's school work was done in a fort in the living room!

  1. So a gluten-free diet helps those with PCOS? I'm not sure I could go gluten-free! It's in everything! I'm amazed at those who do have to follow the diet.

Ouch! I hope you're feeling better soon!

Love the reading in bed and under a fort photos!
